I have been thoroughly enjoying The Chosen video series. I can watch every episode multiple times to be able to pick up everything in the episode.

Which is why I am very surprised about how disappointing this study is. At the end of every episode I wish I was watching it in a Bible study because I could think of at least 1/2 a dozen things that the episode brought up that I would like to dive deeper into.

This is much more of a "you" study than a Bible study. The questions are constantly focused on what you think and feel, more than what the Word says or about the characteristics of God and Jesus.

Here are a few examples of the many "you centered" questions:

In what ways are you like Isaiah? What thoughts and feelings does the phrase "God's plan" evoke in you? What do you think of Jesus? What do you fear? Which of The Chosen characters do you identify with most? In your opinion what kind of responsibility comes with this knowledge? What do you think of God using wicked people to punish other wicked people? What are some characteristics of a good parent?

What I think and feel is not the point. What God's word says is what we need to learn and why I was excited to dive into the study.

There is SO MUCH rich material in the videos that could be taught, including the Old Testament feasts and customs, the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, and so much more.

The quality of the book is very nice and maybe this was designed as outreach for new believers and I am not the target audience, but it was not at all what I was hoping for.

I absolutely love The Chosen! I could watch every episode over and over (and I have), and never get tired of it! I have been eagerly awaiting season two to be released, so I was really excited to see that there was a Bible study based on season one to hold me over until then!

This study is broken up into 8 lessons, one to go along with each episode of season one. Each lesson starts out with a transcript from the episode to lead you into the lesson. It also includes "your turn" questions to get you reflecting and looking up scripture in your Bible. There is a section in each lesson called "Old Testament Context" which I love because it reiterates that the Bible is one ongoing love story from God, and that the Old Testament is just as important to read and understand as the New Testament. They are a package deal, and you cannot fully understand one without the other. The lessons use Mary Magdalene, Nicodemus, Matthew, and Simon's lives as examples in the lessons, and that really helps with application of the material. It was easy for me to see parts of myself in these people. The lessons each end with a prayer focus, and information for further study.

I really enjoyed this study, and usually spent a day or two on each lesson to make sure that I soaked in all of the information and application. It is a study that will help you dig deeper, require you to dust off your Bible, but it is also not so overwhelming that you will not be able to fit it into your daily quiet time. If you enjoy watching The Chosen, or are just looking for an engaging Bible study, this would be a great option for you!

I received a copy of this book, from David C Cook, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I bought 10 for a church bible study and am very pleased on the content. They took the time to make it personal, and to teach scripture application. I love that it uses the series as the base, and you can enjoy the theatrics and the study in tandem. I would recommend for anyone who wants to spread the word of God through small groups or self learning.

This study, a complement to The Chosen app series, provides OT and NT references to enrich the understanding of our relationship with Jesus, our Lord!

I am big fan of The Chosen, so we decided to do the bible study. We were not dissappointed at all. Great explanations of Gods word and loved the questions.
