I have only read the first two books in this series. I have a baby now and what was once a routine event, reading, is now a luxury. But the books I have read so far are AWESOME. I'm not even a sci-fi enthusiast, but these books really drag you into the possibilities of what humanity would be like had sin not been exposed. The main character visits Mars and Venus where the inhabitants have had the same opportunities as we have, yet they have done things drastically different. The second book really emphasizes that the reason Earth is so full of sin is because of Adam and Eve; they altered the course of everything - and Jesus is the one who came to save us from it. It's been a few years since I finished the second book, but whenever I watch the news and ask myself where'd everything go wrong, I remember the Beginning and have my answers. Not to blame Adam and Eve, but to put everything into better perspective. They ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They didn't have to, but they were tempted and did. These books take that theme and, from an Earthling's outlook, give us another way of viewing what could have been and what will be - if we only accept "the gift of God which is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23).

Fascinating stuff!! I loved all three of the books, but they are a bit hard to read because C.S. Lewis apparently only knew words with eight syllables. I would recommend this to a friend who LOVES science fiction only. Others might enjoy the last story, but not the first two.

I ordered this book with other several bibles and I received them today. But when I opened the box and checked the condition of the books, I feel frustrated and even angry. Most paper books were a little bit scuffed and dog-eared. It is because, I think, the box was too big to hold the items, but there were nothing packaging materials like papers or plastic air pillows for protecting items. Hardcover books were mostly fine, but most paper books were damaged. In fact, I have experienced the same issue several times when I ordered books from Christianbook. When ordering some items, all customers want to receive them as it was, as in intact condition. Christianbook needs to consider this issue for a better shipping service.

I read these book in the 1960's as as middle-school unbeliever who liked sci-fi. Decided to read again with the eye of a 67 year old, 50 year Christian. The Christian doctrines that are covered in his fictional format is astounding. The first two books in basic salvation issues, the third is much deeper in exploring what has become the modern progressive movement. Just took a free on-line course at Hillsdale College about Lewis. I highly recommend it.

Having read "That Hideous Strength" decades ago and found it the best fiction i ever read in my 70+ years, i determined to read the two other books in the trilogy. It was a good decision. Although interrelated, all 3 books can stand alone. There is a treasure of rich theological insight in Perelandra born of a lifetime of Biblical study and Christian faith and experience. The reader may find many a time where a vague notion has been confirmed and explained by the story. So abundant are these experiences that betimes a pause and meditation seem mandated before continuing.
